Essential Endgame Principles
Advance the King in front of your passed pawn, not behind it.
Maintain opposition to force the defending king to step aside.
Use the "Rule of the Square" to calculate if an undefended pawn can promote before the enemy king reaches it.
When your king reaches the 6th rank in front of your pawn, the position is a forced win regardless of who has the move.
Step-by-Step Technique
Step 1: Move your King forward to seize the opposition (e.g. Ke4).
Step 2: When Black's King steps to d6 or f6, outflank it by moving to the opposite side (Kf5 or Kd5).
Step 3: Advance the King to the 6th rank to build a protective shelter for the pawn.
Step 4: Push the pawn forward safely under the escort of your centralized King to promote to a Queen.
